Reading Accuracy and Response Speed

LSP-HD - BlogOur LSP-HD infrared linescanners don’t really “scan” the measuring field from right to left and left to right but include a continuously rotating mirror and a point detector.

The measuring spot of the point detector and the rotating mirror create a scan line consisting of 1,000 sample points, all overlapping to provide a full and uninterrupted scan line at an 80° (± 40°) scanning angle.

As the detector is actively cooled, it provides an extraordinary thermal resolution or thermal sensitivity.

Depending on the model, the response time per measuring point (sample) is <= 1 µs to 10 µs, which effectively is 0.000001 to 0.00001 seconds.

Even a fast-moving product is measured at the highest accuracy.

The rotating mirror also has almost no wear and works reliably 24/7 for decades, even in very rough, hot, and dusty environments.

1,000 Sample Points @ Full Scanner Speed and Highest Reading Accuracy

LSP-HD - BlogThe LSP-HD linescanner includes one detector and creates 1,000 samples points per line. Compared to thermal imagers, where different pixels from the array detector are used, the LSP-HD linescanner provides the highest possible reading homogeneity, resulting in a precise reading accuracy across the whole scan line.

While the absolute temperature reading accuracy is ± 2 °C, meaning  @ 1,000 °C it is ± 0.2 % of reading for most of the scanner models, the repeatability – which is a very important metric – is < 0.5 °C, meaning @ 1,000 °C it is ± 0,05 % of reading. These are outstanding device accuracies and repeatabilities, providing the highest possible process control and data capture.

In applications where even small temperature differences can cause a lot of stress in the material, like in the flat glass lehr cooling process, if the LSP-HD linescanner measures a temperature difference of 2 K, you can be confident that a temperature difference in the material really exists.

The high-temperature reading accuracy and outstanding repeatability are important to precisely control and monitor thermal processes throughout a wide variety of applications and industries.

Long-time Reliability and Easy Access for Maintenance

All LSP-HD line scanners are equipped with a sapphire protection window at the optical window of the instrument, providing the highest possible protection, even in very harsh environmental conditions.

LSP-HD - BlogAs sapphire is as hard as diamond, even steel wool or a steel tool can “clean” the window without damaging it; however, we do not recommend this cleaning method.

A wide range of accessories are available to install the scanner in different applications and environments.

Once installed and adjusted, the easy access “fix and loosen mechanism” allows the operator to mount and demount the scanners without further mechanical adjustment. This – of course – is a huge benefit in the field, as typically, the environmental conditions can be pretty hot, dirty, and dangerous, providing long-time reliability and process safety.

INDUSTRY 4.0 Ready & Easy to Connect

LSP-HD - BlogThe interfacing of all LSP-HD linescanners is through a PoE one cable connection (power over ethernet), providing the instrument power and at the same time a full bi-directional ethernet interface.

Only one instrument or high-temperature cable needs to be installed in the field, making the installation process much easier.

While each scanner can be configured with an included software tool, it can work autonomously, e.g., with an I/O-module. In addition, the scanner can easily be integrated into existing plant control systems or any customer software, ready for INDUSTRY 4.0.

Control and Analyse Software

LSP-HD - BlogThe advanced Windows Control & Analyse (WCA) software package handles up to 8 LSP-HD linescanners, creating a central process control system.

Extensive monitoring and analysing options, data capturing, and product tracking enable full control of a process, e.g., rolling processes or flat glass production lines.

Our compact and sophisticated high accuracy infrared LSP-HP linescanners are designed to produce advanced thermal imaging of moving processes and, importantly, deliver high-definition measurements at all scan speeds.
