Keeping thermal imaging cameras safe in high-temperature furnaces is a challenge. Too little cooling risks damage, too much wastes resources.
FlowPro, developed by Altair for LAND®, takes the guesswork out of this process.

It uses an advanced romAI model built on CFD simulation data and validated through real-world trials. It predicts borescope tip temperature instantly for any combination of cooling flows and flue gas temperatures. That means engineers can recommend the right cooling setup with confidence, saving time and avoiding costly mistakes.
How FlowPro Works
The romAI model was trained on multiple CFD simulations covering a range of conditions. These were validated against real-world data to ensure accuracy. Mesh refinement, material properties and boundary conditions were all carefully managed to achieve reliable results.
Once the CFD work was complete, the romAI model was created using design of experiment data. Blind test points confirmed its accuracy, and validation across customer sites showed a strong fit even when accounting for tolerance build-ups.
Best Practice for Installation
FlowPro assumes a typical good installation as outlined in the user guide.
LAND recommends fitting flow indicators and pressure relief valves, along with a standpipe air purge to improve jacket longevity.
The water-cooled jacket should sit flush with or slightly back from the refractory hot face. If the borescope is installed at a steep angle, any protrusion beyond the wall should be kept to a minimum.
The flows provided by
FlowPro are estimates. Monitoring during commissioning is essential to confirm suitability for the actual installation.
Why It Matters
Accurate prediction of tip temperature means safer operation, less waste and greater confidence. FlowPro gives engineers the insight they need to make informed decisions about cooling requirements, ensuring borescope cameras perform reliably in demanding environments.
FlowPro is not just a calculation tool. It’s a practical solution built on rigorous modelling and validation, designed to give engineers clarity and control in demanding environments.
