Cogeneration plants generate both electricity and usable heat. This is a more thermally efficient process than generating electricity only. Many of the solutions for other power applications apply equally to cogeneration plants.

Technology used in cogeneration plants is more expensive than other plants. This makes fire prevention at the mill even more of a key issue, as equipment replacement costs will be higher.
