There are many complexities to calibrating infrared thermometers, including line scanners and thermal imagers. Expert knowledge is required on the effects of - size of source, ambient temperature, detector sensitivity (%E/°C), and more. For example, the magnitude of error caused through using a source with an emissivity less than 1.00 and calibrating thermometers by comparison operating at a different wavelength.
