The stands are where the wire rods are rolled to produce the correct thickness and finishing. Temperature measurements at this stage assist with setting the correct parameters for rolling. They also ensure the correct metallurgical properties have been obtained by the steel prior to cooling.
If there are any stoppages to the rolling process, a short wavelength thermometer provides the operator or mill computer with the data required to reset roll parameters to continue producing a product of the same quality.
Targeting the narrow wire rods can be difficult, so the LED alignment provides confidence that the steel is being measured. The ratio system is ideal for the high temperatures in the stands, providing the measurements needed for quality monitoring and process control.
