Vapour Deposition - Preform

Vapour deposition processes are used to create the internal structure of the preform before optical fibre is drawn from it. The temperature of the preform in the burner zone, where deposition takes place, is a critical control parameter for fibre strength and transmission quality.

The deposition process can be accomplished by a variety of methods. All require temperature monitoring, which can only be achieved by a non-contact thermometer which sights precisely onto the preform and is unaffected by the flames of the burner.

By providing an accurate surface temperature measurement, allows process control that delivers efficient, high-yield production of low-loss, high-bandwidth optical fibre.
