Melt Tank - Bulk Glass

Continuous monitoring of the extremely high temperatures in the melt tank are essential to ensure uniformity of the glass throughout the production process. Process efficiency can also be controlled by monitoring the temperature of the bulk glass as it melts.

Viscosity is an important factor in glass production processes, and is directly related to the glass temperature. To obtain a more accurate determination of the glass temperature, measurement should be made at a wavelength which penetrates more deeply into the glass bulk.

Measuring the temperature of the glass in the melt tank helps ensure consistent product quality. It also improves efficiency by reducing the time required for the melting process. This lowers energy costs and increases productivity. It also ensures the refractory wall is not exposed to molten glass for excessive periods.
