Canal

Canal (Flat)
The canal delivers molten glass from the melt tank to the tin bath. It is important that the glass is maintained at a high enough temperature to avoid any solidification or other changes in property before it reaches the tin bath.

The choice of thermometers to use at the canal section depends upon the construction and operation of this section. Non-contact, short wavelength thermometers are required to measure the bulk temperature of the glass with no interference to the process.

Close control of the temperature in the canal ensures the glass flowing through it remains homogenous and of consistent quality, which improves process efficiency and reduces the amount of waste product.
