Plasma Nitriding

This treatment process uses a plasma field to harden the surface of the metal. This typically involves plasma temperatures between 420-660°C (788-1220°F). Precise measurements are important to ensure the desired level of hardening.

Plasma nitriding depends on a thermochemical process, so the correct temperature must be maintained for this reaction to occur. A non-contact measurement is required for this application, but the plasma field may obscure the metal surface. Instruments using a 1.6µm waveband will see through the plasma for an accurate reading.

A non-contact measurement which is unaffected by the plasma field provides an accurate temperature measurement for this application. This ensures the correct process temperature is maintained, supporting control of product quality.
