Clinker Chute

The clinker chute conveys the clinker from the burning zone, so that it can be cooled before either being stored, or directly transferred to the cement mill. Temperature measurements at this stage provide confirmation of correct heating in the kiln, and information about the clinker cooling rate.

Because the clinker is moving through the chute, temperature measurements have to be made extremely quickly. A non-contact method is required to avoid affecting the composition of the clinker. In addition, because the clinker is very hot at this stage, and conditions are dusty, making in-situ measurements a challenge.

Accurate monitoring of the clinker as it leaves the chute helps support quality control of the product ahead of its use in the cement mill. It also provides a safety measurement, preventing process equipment being damaged by overheated clinker.
