Why has LAND Introduced a UL-approved Power Supply Unit?

At LAND, our goal has always been to provide customers with solutions that deliver accurate temperature measurements, reliable operations and straightforward integration into industrial processes.

However, in recent years we have seen an increasing number of projects, particularly in North America. where performance alone is not enough. Customers also need equipment that meets specific regulatory and safety requirements.

That's why we have introduced a new UL-approved power supply unit (PSU) for our thermal imagers and linescanners.

Responding to Customer Needs

Thermal Imaging PSU - (UL approved)The launch of a UL-approved PSU is driven directly by customer demand. Increasingly, industrial projects in the United States and Canada require equipment to carry certification from a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) before it can be installed on site. Without this certification, project approvals can be delayed, additional inspections may be required, or equipment may not be accepted at all.

Historically, LAND customers could still deploy our thermal imagers and linescanners in these applications, but the responsibility for demonstrating compliance often fell on the end user or system integrator. We recognised that this created unnecessary complexity and could become a barrier to project delivery.

By providing a UL-approved PSU, we are making it easier for customers to specify, approve and install LAND thermal imaging solutions in regulated environments.

What Is the Difference Between a Standard PSU and a UL-Approved PSU?

There is no difference in terms of measurement performance. Customers still receive the same trusted LAND thermal imaging and linescanner technologies, delivering accurate, continuous non-contact temperature measurements and process monitoring.

The difference lies in the electrical supply system.

The new PSU has been independently assessed, tested and certified by UL, one of the world's most recognised safety certification organisations. The certification process included formal testing and inspection to verify compliance with applicable standards.

A standard non-UL PSU provides the same operational functionality but does not carry this third-party certification. In many global markets this is perfectly acceptable. However, for projects where UL approval is specified, customers require a certified solution that removes uncertainty during procurement, installation and inspection.

Why Does Certification Matter?

For many industrial facilities, compliance is becoming a critical consideration alongside measurement accuracy and system reliability.

UL Certified LogoPlant operators, engineering companies and OEMs are under increasing pressure to demonstrate that equipment used within their facilities meets recognised safety standards. Certification provides confidence that the system has been independently evaluated rather than relying solely on manufacturer declarations.

For customers, this can help reduce project risk, streamline approval processes and simplify interactions with site safety teams, consultants and inspectors.

In some cases, having a UL-approved PSU can be the difference between a solution being specified from the outset or requiring additional work before installation can proceed.

Designed for Industrial Applications

While certification was a key objective, we also wanted to ensure the solution met the practical needs of industrial users.

The UL-approved PSU features a robust NEMA Type 4 enclosure suitable for indoor and outdoor use, universal mains input for global deployment, and a single termination point for camera cabling. These features help simplify installation while maintaining the reliability customers expect from LAND products.

The system is compatible with a wide range of LAND’s thermal imagers and linescanners, including the LWIR, MWIR and MWIR-SDS thermal imagers, MWIR-b borescope systems and LSP-HD linescanners.

Looking Ahead

LAND's LWIR-640 Thermal Imager and SoftwareThe launch of the UL-approved PSU reflects LAND's commitment to continually adapting our products to changing customer requirements.

Industrial customers today expect more than accurate temperature measurement. They need solutions that integrate easily into their operations, support corporate safety objectives and simplify project execution. Certification is increasingly part of that conversation.

By introducing a UL-approved system, we are helping customers deploy LAND thermal imagers in North America and other regulated markets with greater confidence. The result is a solution that combines the proven performance of LAND’s temperature measurement technologies with the reassurance of independent certification.

Ultimately, this launch isn't about changing how our thermal imagers and linescanners measure temperatures. It's about removing obstacles, simplifying compliance and making it easier for customers to benefit from the trusted solutions that LAND has delivered for decades.
