An advanced technology for screening human body temperature was demonstrated to Lee Rowley, Member of Parliament for North East Derbyshire, at AMETEK Land’s headquarters in Dronfield.

AMETEK Land welcomes MP Lee Rowley in showcase of VIRALERT temperature screening system in fight against COVID-19AMETEK Land originally developed its VIRLALERT infra-red screening system in Dronfield following the 2002 SARS outbreak. The technology to monitor for elevated temperature, an indicator of fever symptoms associated with COVID-19, has been developed to enable the launch of a brand-new product, the VIRALERT 3. The VIRALERT 3 is a compact, simple-to-use and affordable system that can help businesses, facilities and public spaces reopen safely, and provide resilience to help keep them open.

Designed to screen visitors at an entry point without slowing the flow of people, VIRALERT 3 technology scans without any person-to-person contact, keeping both parties safe from disease transmission.   Using automatic face detection, the simple camera-and-laptop system analyses skin temperature of people’s faces before taking a reading accurate to within 0.5oC, then calculating core body temperature within two seconds.

Following the tour of the manufacturing facilities and demonstration of the product, MP Lee Rowley said, “It is fantastic that we have this high level of technology and innovation right here in Dronfield.  I’m impressed by the people behind the product and the company itself, which is a major asset and exactly the type of business we need here.”

Division Vice President Justin Smith said: “The new VIRALERT 3 is a major global technology in keeping people safe in the fight against COVID-19.  We are proud to have developed and manufactured it here in Dronfield. The global market for this technology is expanding very rapidly, and will provide a boost to the manufacturing profile in our region.”
