Granulation

Granulation is the process of forming granules or pellets from molten nickel matte through rapid cooling. It's crucial to prevent slag contamination, as it can degrade the quality of the nickel matte product.

To address this issue, AMETEK Land has developed the Slag Detection System (SDS), which utilises a high-resolution thermal imaging camera. This specialised camera is designed to withstand harsh operating conditions and uses a specific wavelength to minimise interference from smoke and fume.

Real-time data from the camera is presented to operators, allowing them to make informed decisions during the tapping process, and the system also provides clear alarm notifications.
